Mark grew up in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England and was enchanted by photography from a young age.
At the age of 8 he was given his first camera to which never left his side, taking stills of all the curiosities that surrounded childhood. Moving to London he worked his way up; The Times, Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, Mail On Sunday and Today.Whilst continuing to push boundaries with advertising and portraiture, he managed to explore more personal projects. This includes the Aqueous series which he has continued working on since 2005.
Mawson’s creation was first inspired by the simple act of watching milk being poured into the numerous cups of coffee he drinks daily. The vibrant photographs, which were created using only paint and water, have been compared to falling down a rabbit hole and finding yourself in some other worldly place.
